If you have a GivEnergy battery installed at your home or business, recent developments may have left you wondering what happens if something goes wrong with your system.
GivEnergy Ltd entered administration on 9 April 2026 and has ceased trading. For thousands of UK households with GivEnergy batteries and inverters already installed, this raises an important question:
Who can you turn to if your GivEnergy battery develops a fault?
The good news is that a problem with your battery does not automatically mean that the entire system needs replacing.
Independent assessment, repair and responsible end-of-life support may still provide a route forward.
What happened to GivEnergy?
GivEnergy became one of the best-known names in the UK domestic battery storage market, supplying batteries and inverters for homes with solar PV as well as standalone battery storage systems.
However, GivEnergy Ltd entered administration on 9 April 2026 and subsequently ceased trading.
The administrator has confirmed that GivEnergy Ltd will no longer honour hardware warranties or provide its previous user and software support.
This does not mean every company within the wider GivEnergy group has stopped operating. Other legal entities, including GivEnergy Software Ltd and GivEnergy Commercial Ltd, were not included in the administration.
For owners of GivEnergy hardware, however, the change creates uncertainty when a battery or inverter develops a problem.
Will my GivEnergy battery still work?
If your GivEnergy system is currently operating normally, there is no reason to assume that it will suddenly stop working simply because GivEnergy Ltd has entered administration.
Existing batteries and inverters are physical systems installed in customers’ homes and businesses.
The Energy Storage Association has advised that owners whose systems continue to operate do not need to replace them simply because of the administration.
The difficulty arises when something goes wrong.
Previously, an owner or installer might have relied on manufacturer technical support or a warranty claim. With GivEnergy Ltd no longer providing those services, an alternative support route may now be needed.
What happens to my GivEnergy warranty?
This is one of the biggest concerns for existing owners.
GivEnergy systems were previously promoted with long manufacturer warranties. However, the administrator has confirmed that GivEnergy Ltd will no longer honour hardware warranties.
If you have a problem, your first step should normally be to check who supplied and installed the system and review the contract you have with them.
Depending on how your system was purchased, you may have rights or alternative routes available through your installer, retailer, finance provider or card provider.
But where manufacturer support is no longer available, independent technical assessment can also help determine what is actually wrong with the system and whether it can be repaired.
Common GivEnergy battery problems
A battery fault does not necessarily mean the battery has reached the end of its useful life.
At Recover, we can assess GivEnergy systems experiencing issues such as:
- Battery not charging
- Battery not discharging
- Battery or inverter fault codes
- Communication problems
- Unexpected shutdowns
- Reduced battery performance
- Loss of usable capacity
- System health concerns
- Batteries requiring an end-of-life assessment
The important first step is identifying the cause of the problem.
Should I replace a faulty GivEnergy battery?
Not necessarily.
Replacing an entire home battery system can be expensive, and it may also create unnecessary electronic and battery waste if the existing equipment can still be recovered.
At Recover, we take a repair-first approach.
Where appropriate, we assess the battery and determine whether there is a viable repair pathway before recommending replacement.
Depending on the condition of the equipment, there are generally three possible outcomes:
1. Repair
If the problem can be safely and economically repaired, extending the life of the existing battery may be the most sensible option.
2. Replacement
Where a battery cannot be safely repaired, replacement may be required. An assessment can help you make that decision based on the actual condition of the system rather than simply assuming the whole unit has failed.
3. Responsible recycling
If the battery has genuinely reached the end of its usable life, it must be handled appropriately.
Lithium-ion batteries should not be placed into normal household or commercial waste streams. Recover specialises in the collection, assessment, refurbishment and responsible recycling of lithium-ion batteries.
What should I do if my GivEnergy battery has stopped working?
If you have a problem with your system, avoid repeatedly resetting, opening or attempting to repair the battery yourself.
Battery energy storage systems contain high-voltage electrical components and lithium-ion cells. Diagnosis and repair should be handled by people with the appropriate technical knowledge.
Instead:
- Record the problem. Note any error messages or fault codes and when the issue started.
- Take photographs. Images of the battery, inverter, display and any visible error messages can help with an initial assessment.
- Check your installer details. If your original installer is still trading, contact them and check what support they can provide.
- Arrange an independent assessment if needed. If manufacturer support is unavailable or your installer cannot resolve the issue, Recover can review the problem and advise on possible next steps.
Support for GivEnergy installers
The administration does not only affect homeowners.
Solar and battery installers may now find themselves dealing with customers whose systems were installed months or years ago but who can no longer access the manufacturer support originally available.
That can create a significant aftercare burden.
Recover can provide an independent route for:
- Fault assessment
- Battery diagnostics
- Repair pathways
- Unsupported GivEnergy systems
- Customer support enquiries
- End-of-life batteries
- Responsible collection and recycling
This gives installers somewhere to direct complex battery issues rather than automatically recommending complete system replacement.
Support for wholesalers and distributors
Wholesalers may also have GivEnergy equipment within their supply chains or receive enquiries from trade customers looking for help.
Recover can support businesses with battery assessment, repair options, affected stock and responsible end-of-life management.
Our objective is simple: determine whether equipment can remain in use before treating it as waste.
Why repairing batteries matters
Battery storage plays an increasingly important role in the UK’s transition towards renewable energy.
But the environmental benefits of energy storage should not end when a component develops a fault.
Manufacturing a replacement battery requires raw materials, energy, transportation and additional resources. Where an existing battery can be safely repaired and returned to use, extending its service life can reduce unnecessary waste.
And when repair is no longer practical, responsible recycling can help ensure valuable battery materials remain within the circular economy.
That is why Recover follows a hierarchy of:
Assess → Repair → Reuse → Recycle
rather than automatically treating a faulty battery as waste.
Need help with a GivEnergy battery?
If your GivEnergy battery is showing a fault, has stopped charging or discharging, has suffered a performance drop, or you simply do not know what to do following the GivEnergy administration, Recover can help you understand your options.
We provide independent UK support for homeowners, installers, wholesalers and businesses with GivEnergy battery systems.
Don’t assume a faulty battery needs to be thrown away. Let us assess it first.
